COBOL Compile Error

In an attempt to draw more attention to an error, let me copy a comment here.  If you have any ideas on what ps_rookie should do, please comment here.

I suggested taking the dash out of the compile directory, and he said that did not make a difference.

Below is the comment:

Hi DE,

I am trying to Install COBOL for my HCM 9.0 Installation. I have downloaded and installaed the Net Express Cobol Comipler and now I am doing the exact same steps as you have discussed above. I am getting the Object Compiling Error. Pasted below.

When I check the Error.lis file, I find the same entries there.

Could you please inform, as to why am I getting this error?

  1. Thanks DE.
    Another update, rather FYI…

I am trying to do this on my Stand alone machine. So the Micro Focus Net Express 5.1 that I using is the 30 day trial version. This has the limit of lines of code per COBOL Runtime. I think its 2000 or 2200 lines of code max. My Hunch is, could it be a licensing issue?

Secondly, aftr running the CBLBLD.BAT I found all these EXEs/GNTs/INTs sitting in the Temp/CCOBOL folder that I created. I manually copied them to CBLBINA. And then I tried to run a sample cobol process but it didnt help. I cross checked to see if my Process Scheduler is running, and it is.

So I am still stuck… any pointers?

  2. One thing that I had trouble with was the installation location of NetExpress. I changed the default installation to C:NetExpress to prevent any spaces in the path. This was for Microfocus 5.0 so it may not be an issue with 5.1 but just something that caused me issues. You’ll need to change your %COBROOT% variable accordingly if you do change the installation location.

I’ve managed to compile all the COBOLs for HCM 9.0. However as I noted, I used NetExpress 5.0.

I issued the following command for the compile. Note that I added the following path to my PATH system variable: %PS_HOME%srccblwin32.

    cblbld C: temp

  3. Thanks Praj,
I tried your solution, I even tried using the Net Express 5.0 but I am still stuck up at the same problem.
One question from you. Are you using a paid version of the Net Express?

Because I have a hunch at the solution…. I am guessing most of the above .obj files cant compile because of the source file 2200 lines of code restriction….

i was under the impression that net Express 5.1 and 5.0 (University edition) are free of cost. But I wasn’t sure of the 2200 code line limit…

Is there any way to get over this problem?

    Thanks
p.s. Did you compile using CBLBLD or CBLMAKE? I tried both, but could not get all the files to work.

  4. Finally I got it to work.
The problems I was facing was because of the 2000 lines code limit. Thats because i had downloaded the net Express from Micro Focus website which was obviously a trial/shareware version.

Later I uninstalled it and downloaded it from oracle.edelivery.com. I also downloaded a installation guide that had the step by step procedures to get it installed. Now, this install is also a 30 day trial version.

But since I am going to compile the cobol runtimes only once 9for my sandbox installation), I dont really need to worry because I already have the exe’s in the first run.

    Thanks for your help Praj.
