PTF Startup Error

This is a nice introduction to PTF as I have started playing with it.  Fortunately, the fix turned out pretty simple, so I thought it would make a nice simple blog post.

Here’s the error message:

If you have trouble viewing the image, it reads:

Unhandled exception has occurred in your application.  If you click Continue, the application will ignore this error and attempt to continue.  If you click Quit, the application will close immediately.

Could not find a part of the path ‘C:\Documents and Settings\psadmin\Application Data\PeopleSoft\PeopleSoft Test Framework\localoptions.xml’.

When I looked for the directory, the folder does not exist:

The simple fix: Create the path manually:

Now, it starts (and, it creates the localoptions.xml):

  1. Stephen,

I have couple of issues when I run PTF tests. Would like to know your thoughts.

    1. Are test logs after execution stored in the location configured in the execution options? Are these logs accessible through PTF explorer only?
–The folder is always empty on my system.

    2. Does the test gets recorded when you use drop-down cascading navigation to access the test component?
–Recorder is unable to record any click when I access the component in such manner. It works when I navigate in traditional way though!

fyi: This start up error is a bug that’s fixed in PT8.51.02. Nevertheless this is an easy workaround.

    Thanks,
    Ashwini

    1. Ashwini,

I have been curious about the logs as well, but I haven’t had the opportunity to research yet. I will try to do that and see if I can find another way to access the logs. I want to get to the screenshots in particular.

I haven’t had any trouble so far using the drop down navigation with PTF. It records the test and replays it. I noticed that I have to click on the search button rather than hit the enter key, but other than that, I haven’t noticed any issues navigating. I am almost positive the tests I have built so far use the drop down menu.

Thanks for the FYI. I have 8.51.11 installed currently, but I can’t remember what I was on when I wrote this post. I was probably using 8.51.00 at the time. I should remember to include that in the posts.

I’ll let you know if I learn anything more.

      Thanks,

      Stephen

  2. Stephen,

Thank you for your input. I have been configuring and testing the 8.51.12 features myself. PTF is something that I am vigorously testing right now and the drop down navigation style is negatively impacting the test results.
Have a ticket open on this issue, awaiting response from support. Let’s see what they have to say.

Content in your blog is concise and informative. I really like it. Keep up the good work!
